As part of the City of Philadelphia's Storefront Improvement Program, yet another business in Tacony has received assistance from the Tacony Community Development Corporation in updating its storefront! Evergreen Supermarket, located on the corner of Longshore and Torresdale Avenues received brand new signs this month as part of its rebrand under new management. The new business title, Evergreen Supermarket, reflects some changes being made to the business.
In addition to the household staples, hardware, snacks, clothes, decor, and more that the store has always offered, Evergreen has recently expanded to include more groceries on their shelves. With more dry goods and occasional fruits and vegetables available, the new store owner is hoping to increase business by improving access to food to the Tacony neighborhood. As part of this commitment, Evergreen has also begun accepting EBT! Now, residents receiving SNAP benefits can visit Evergreen for grocery staples like eggs, milk, bread, and more! The store also has a large collection of toiletries and hair care products, and remains the only spot in Tacony for basic hardware tools -with more to come!
The Storefront Improvement Program is offered by the City of Philadelphia of businesses on select commercial corridors, including Torresdale Avenue, to receive financial assistance in improving their facades. Work covered by the program can include new signs like Evergreen's, security grates, brick pointing, door and window replacements, decorations like window decals, and more. Businesses on the Torresdale Avenue Business Corridor can get up to 80% of the costs of improvements covered by the Storefront Improvement Program and the Tacony Community Development Corporation.
