The LAB is celebrating its five-year anniversary with a two-day community event! Five years ago, the Tacony Community Development Corporation collaborated with Mural Arts Philadelphia and the office of former Councilman Bobby Henon to create the Tacony LAB Community Art Center. This has become a hub for learning, creativity, and community engagement in Tacony. The LAB offers art classes for adults and youth, and presents arts-focused events free of charge in a gallery featuring rotating exhibits.
Stop by the LAB at 6918 Torresdale Avenue between 6 and 8PM on September 9th to visit the Sidewalk Maker Market, an outdoor event where LAB community members will be showing off their work. Then, on Saturday, September 10th, join the LAB in celebrating with an anniversary party! There will be refreshments, music, and activities between 1 and 4:30PM. Both of these events are free and open to all ages!
Thanks to the Tacony LAB Community Art Center, creatives in Tacony have somewhere to go. Without the LAB, Tacony would never have had the Frank Shuman Solar Art Parklet, the Our Tacony mural (one of the city’s only true fresco works) on the side of Marie Huff Hairdressing, the distinctive light pole signs along Torresdale Avenue, or the Tacony Shag-Tapestry displayed inside the LAB. The Tacony community owes a lot to the program coordinators and artists that have made the LAB what it is, and we can’t wait to celebrate their five-year anniversary!Gallery
