On August 12th, our Corridor Manager, Amarynth, led an insightful presentation diving into Tacony's Commercial Market! Hosted at the Tacony Library, Amarynth gave a detailed analysis of ESRI and business survey data as it relates to Tacony’s business and consumer makeup.
Some of the main topics Amarynth talked about included: Tacony resident demographics and spending habits, Tacony business owner demographics and the distribution of different business categories in the neighborhood.
Our Vision Zero Representative Georgeanne was also there before the presentation started to educate attendees and advocate for safer streets in Tacony, thank you Georgeanne for your dedication and hard work!
Everyone got to enjoy Fink's Hoagies as well during the presentation provided by Councilmember Driscoll, they were a huge hit and we were able to donate any leftovers to the Library for staff and kids to enjoy!
Thank you to everyone who came to this meeting and the great feedback you provided us! If you missed out this time and are interested in learning more, keep an eye out for an announcement in November of when another Market Analysis will be taking place!
Next, on August 11th, community members gathered at Tacony Library to view “Re-Imagining Disston Park,” the capstone project of Isabelle Rocca, who recently obtained a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Temple University. Isabelle presented her vision of a redesigned and reinvigorated Disston Park, emphasizing the importance of communal green spaces in a diverse and historic neighborhood like Tacony!
Isabelle explained her design process, and the methods she used to collect her data. She met with TCDC, the Tacony Civic Association, and other community members, surveying the neighborhood for their vision of a functional park in their neighborhood, doing a walk-through of the existing park, and finally designing a plan for an activated Disston Park. TCDC's Residential Coordinator, Gwen and Executive Director, Xhulio also shared current plans for the park, including a new site plan for a Community Garden at the corner of Keystone and Longshore! The meeting concluded with an interactive activity where everyone attending got to draw their own design of what they imagined Disston Park to look like!
Thanks again Isabelle for designing our neighborhood, listening to the voices of Tacony residents and incorporating their wishes into your research!
Stay tuned for more projects at the park and volunteering opportunities! Join the Disston Park Community Garden Whatsapp Group here.
Finally, on August 14th, TCDC partnered with Philly Home Girls realtors Rachel Shaw and Erin Dennisson, and Loan Officer Paul Zlotnikoff to host a workshop for first-time homebuyers in the area!
The Philly Home Girls and Paul led an engaging, interactive, and informative session detailing the steps of buying a home for the first time. Thank you to everyone who came for your participation and positive feedback. We will be planning events like this one in the future, so if you missed out this time, don't worry there will be more!
Another thank you to Tacony's Thunder Mug Café for hosting our meeting, guests also were treated to food and drinks courtesy of TCDC!
